A Subordinates Respect
The lieutenant's eyes were cold. The blade was levelled for its thrust. I closed my eyes that I might not see the blade, his own, pass between the ribs of the first of the two held men. Then the lieutenant said, "Release them." Their fellows stepped away from them. I expected the two men to turn about then, and run. But they did not. Rather they stood where they were. I then gathered something of the discipline of the black caste.
Chapter 30 - Witness of Gor.
From evidence found in the Gorean books, we know that the Black Caste follows a military standard. If it did not then there would be no need for such ranks as Lieutenant, Captain and Master Assassin. We also know from several passaages that the orders issued by Black Caste Officers were followed without question by their subordinates.
"Four will advance," said the leader of the strangers. "You, and you, will engage," he said, to two of his men, near him, on the right side of the room, as one would enter it.
"And you, and you," said the lieutenant, to two of the men on his side of the room, the left, as one would enter.

"You, you," said the leader of the strangers to two of his men.
"Sheath your swords, set your bows."
The two men, protected behind their brethren, unslung their bows.
Chapter 30 - Witness of Gor.
Within any form of hierarchical framework that employs a chain of command you will find or can apply a popular saying - "Shit runs down hill!"
From a Role-play perspective we should expect that the direction shit rolls in is the same and is also an accepted part of the BC ranking system.
We often see Candidates mentally, physically and verbally abusing Seekers or those waiting to be accepted for Training. We can say the same for non commissioned Black Caste Assassins, who have the right to treat their Candidates with disrespect and bestow punishments upon them when they fail to please their commanders.
What should be considered as unrealistic rank related Role-play is for any tier of subordinate to show disrespect toward his superiors. To do so, the offender should expect and accept retribution in the form of a punishment or death. If the meaning of rank is not respected and adhered to then there is little point in following it in the first place.
Two of the black-tunic ked men had not joined in the attack on the sleen. They had, in those sudden, unexpected, precipitate, grisly moments, stood back, perhaps fearing to act, perhaps unable to do so. The lieutenant slowly turned to regard them.
"There is no blood on your blades," he said. The men stepped back a little, looking at one another.
"Surrender your blades," said the lieutenant. The men looked at one another, uneasily. "I am now in command," said the lieutenant.
"I suggest," said the officer of Treve, "that you need every man you have."
The two blades were surrendered to the lieutenant. The lieutenant gestured to the two men who had surrendered their weapons.
"Hold them," said the lieutenant. The two men were seized, each by two of their fellows.
"I do not advise this course of action," said the officer of Treve.
"There will be blood on your blades," said the lieutenant.
"No!" cried one of the two held men, struggling. "Let us redeem ourselves!" cried the other."You would then be left with only four men," said the officer of Treve.
